Why YOU Should Participate

INSPIRING STUDENTS, TRANSFORMING LIVES

When Sylvia came to San Fernando High School as a 9th grader, she knew she wanted to go to college but didn't know how and neither did her parents.  Sylvia wanted to be the first in her family to go to college and be a role model for her younger siblings.

Sylvia sought the help of Project GRAD and was assigned a Project GRAD Advisor who helped her meet her academic goals and ensured that she was on track to meet college requirements.  Sylvia and her parents attended workshops every year to help familiarize themselves with the college application process and financial aid requirements and options.  Sylvia attended several Project GRAD Summer Institutes on local college campuses where she experienced college life by taking college courses and receiving her first college credits.  Project GRAD also helped Sylvia with her college applications, her personal statements and completing a FAFSA to be eligible for financial aid.  When it came to selecting a college, Sylvia's Project GRAD Advisor helped her and her parents select the "best fit" school.  Sylvia is now a sophomore at the University of California, Irvine, majoring in Biology.  Sylvia's goal is to be a scientist and find cures for deadly diseases like cancer.

Since 1999, Project GRAD has helped over 2,000 students like Sylvia.  Over 90% of Project GRAD students are the first in their family to attend college.  Project GRAD students also earn a bachelor's degree  at a rate three times higher than their peers nationwide.  Project GRAD's goal is to have more high school students enroll in and complete a post-secondary education program - a certificated, vocational, Associates or Bachelor's degree.

Your support for Project GRAD helps to ensure that more students like Sylvia are able to experience an education that will improve their lives and those of their families and their community.
